New York Warehouse Allowed To Burn; Interior Attack Delayed

ALBANY, N.Y. - Authorities say a stubborn fire at an 11-story warehouse in Albany appears to be out, three days after it began.

Albany police spokesman Detective James Miller says the fire department believes the blaze in the 83-year-old structure has burned itself out.

The fire began Friday. Officials decided to let it burn because it was too dangerous for firefighters to enter the concrete and steel building. Miller says firefighters were going into the building Monday to make sure it was out.

Firefighters remained at the scene over the weekend and into Monday morning to pump water onto the Central Warehouse, located along Interstate 787 near downtown Albany.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The former refrigeration facility has been vacant for about 20 years.
