ATTICA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Thursday morning, there was a fast-moving fire in Wyoming County.

Firefighters faced a lot of problems trying to put out the flames on an early morning house fire.

Strong winds, the snow, and freezing temperatures all made it extremely difficult for emergency crews in the Town of Attica.

The fast-moving fire started in a shed about six feet from the home, but the whipping winds intensified the flames, helping them spread to the home and garage.

Firefighters also had to battle tough road conditions while making their way to the home on Austin Road.

One fire truck even got stuck on the way to the scene and had to turn around.

Attica Fire Department Chief Bob Willard said, "It's a long ways from everything. Roads hadn't been plowed yet it was early in the morning. We had 35-40 mile per hour winds upon arrival."

"Were hauling water approximately three miles from a fill site and we've got water splashing off into the roads which is freezing and we can't get plows in because of the fire trucks and one thing just adds to the other," said Willard.

All three people living inside the home made it out safely.

The home is a total loss and officials say they contacted the Red Cross for assistance.
