New Rescue Truck

Im on a comittee in our department that is looking to purchase a new rescue truck. A little background on my dept. we run roughly 90-100 calls a year the majority are EMS, we have 24 members on our roster now and we are looking to replace our light rescue truck, right now we have a 1987 crew cab chevy truck that holds 3 SCBA, 3 Cascade bottles, our jaws and a genarator, also our medical bags and splints. Im looking for any input on what your dept. use for a light rescue, so i can bring some good ideas back to the comittee, this truck will be the most used in our dept. going on MVA's, structurs, EMS, Haz-mat, and more. thanks Robert Amsterdam Vol. Fire MT

Food for thought. Our Department went from having a midi pumper/light rescue and several Engines to a heavy duty Rescue/Engine. We have sisiter trucks for familiarization. This has done several things for our department, first we went from bouncing back in forth from truck to truck to one Engine at each station, secondly we only have maintinance on one truck not two, same with insurance. This also makes it easier for Engineers to be familiar with one truck versus several. With out knowing your Department this is the best advice I can give. We in the ST.Louis area have made this the norm. especialy with the call loads we recieve being around four to five a 24 hr shift.

I would recommend an F-550 4 dr. This is our only Rescue and we carry all our rescue equiptment on this truck.. Cutters, spreaders, generators, cribbing, ems supply's and everything in between. We made-mounted a bracket for 2 SCBA's in the back seat to be able to pack up in route to a fire. Most of our spare bottles are carried on this also.It's a great truck and for rd sizes and area we cover. It does everything we need it to.
