NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Part of downtown New Haven is shut down after an underground electrical fire sent heavy smoke into the streets.
Fire officials say an underground transformer near the Shubert Theater on College Street caught fire early Thursday morning. Authorities say no one was injured and the fire is under control.
About a block of College Street is without power, including the theater. Authorities aren't sure when it will be restored. Some smoke went into the basement of the Shubert, which is hosting the "Beauty and the Beast" Disney musical this weekend.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.
