New Hampshire Firefighter Charged in Pipe Bomb Incident

SALISBURY, N.H. - New Hampshire police say a volunteer firefighter is charged with mishandling a pipe bomb.

WMUR-TV reports Walter Scott Jr. of Salisbury called them in March about a suspicious device he said he found in Franklin. Police said he then brought it back to his garage.

The state police bomb squad rendered the device harmless. They arrested Scott last week, and charged him with reckless endangerment for tampering with the bomb. Investigators said the device was full of metal plugs, which could have been deadly projectiles.

Scott is on leave from the department and faces arraignment on June 28.
