My dealing with the DC area 3 times up. Stayed in Falls Church Va twice and University Park Ma once.
Both are served by the Metro line and let me tell you they are safer than trying to drive around yourself.
DC drivers have no mercy on anybody, much less a out of towner. The Smithsonian is not in one location so know the one you are going to. Also watch out for your safety around the mall is pretty safe but down into to town is not a ery nice place to be. DC motels are very pricey that the reason we'e stayed on the out skirts.. Hope this is helpful.....
Hehehe - I went to DC once. I arrived about 3:30 pm, got off the WRONG exit and ended up driving all the way across town in a standard shift vehicle :(. Nobody told me that the streets have 2 designations, N & S or E & W. I played ring around the rosey on Dupont Circle for about 30 minutes. Taking the metro is smart.
Lyle,
It all depends on where and what you are going to see. The cheaper hotels & motels are going to be out of the city. The Metro is the best way to go. I was a member of DCFD until I was retired and for the last 6 yrs my vehicle sat at home while I rode Metro. My station was 3 blocks from Metro so I used it. Saved alot too!! Email or PM me with your plans and I'll try and steer ya right. OK!
