Natural Gas Leak Causes Virginia House Explosion; One Person Injured

DUMFRIES, Va. - Prince William Fire officials say one person was injured when a house exploded along the 19000 block of Wayne Drive in Dumfries.


It happened around 8:15 a.m. Monday. The victim, who was inside the home, is being treated, but the extent of the victim’s injuries are unknown.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered a heavy gas odor, but no flames were visible. A gas company has been requested to the scene.

The cause the explosion is under investigation.

Officials say this was a two-story home, with a basement, that appears to have been recently remodeled. The walls on the second floor of the
residence were blown out. The home has been deemed unsafe.
