First Alarm Photos STL - 3900 Block of DeTonty. Heavy fire in the basement of an occupied 2-Story, 4-Family Flat. Fire extended to both floors. Bad plugs caused water supply issues early on. 1 FF Injury to the hand.
For a reported basement fire in YOUR area, what would the initial alarm assignment be?
What would you expect to hear as the size-up report from the first company to arrive?

Okay I'll be the first...
Well this looks more like the types of older homes in my Volunteer district. So I'll tell you what we would do here in the Minneapolis Metro.
Initial alarm assignment on a working fire- 1 engine and 1 truck co from our dept, 2 engines from neighboring cities.
Size up would sound something like this-
Engine 1 arriving on a two story residential structure, We've got a working fire in the basement. We'll be stretching lines for a quick hit and then re deploying into the building and we have our own water supply. Engine 1 will have DeTonty Command. Then the officer would do the usual 360 and follow up report that probably would sound like this- Engine 1 update 360 complete and confirmed basement fire with heavy smoke on all floors. We have exposures on the bravo and delta sides. Upgrade my alarm.
I'd expect the first engine to stretch a line and make a hit from the exterior and try to darken down the fire. This would be done off tank water. Then they would lean that there hydrant is bad. At this point the ladder has probably already arrived and committed itself to the scene.
Command would have the mutual aid truck arrive and relay to our engine on scene operating on the tank water.
If we had a positive water supply at this time I'd assume our engine 1 would go in and try to make a stop to the fire that they attempted to quick hit from the exterior. The ladder would search for victims and check for extension on the first and second floor. The third engine would probably assist with fire attack. The fourth due engine would probably stage on the alpha side for relief of the first two engine companies that are going to need replacement soon.
That's a hard one to say how everything would go. I know we would dump our tank on that basement from the initial company and try to protect that exposure while we wait.
