MANSFIELD, Ohio — An Ohio police chief says it appears items similar to Molotov cocktails were hurled through windows at a city hall, starting a small fire.

The fire early Monday set off sprinklers at city hall in Mansfield, 60 miles north of Columbus. It caused water damage to court offices and police records.

Mansfield Chief Phil Messer says authorities responding to the fire found four second-floor windows had apparently been broken from the outside. They also found evidence of what he called "incendiary devices," as well as a gasoline odor.

The broken windows are for offices of the municipal court. The chief says no one was in that part of the building at the time.
