COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. - Authorities say a chemical explosion at a northeastern Indiana mobile home park killed a woman.

The Whitley County Sheriff's Department says the explosion was reported about 1 a.m. Friday in a trailer at the Miami Village Mobile Home Park in Columbia City. The first deputy to arrive smelled a strong odor of suspected anhydrous ammonia, which is a chemical commonly used in making methamphetamine.

The sheriff's department says the explosion's force caused chards of glass to hit 24-year-old Alecia Stine in the throat, neck and arm. She was found dead on a bedroom floor in the trailer.

The sheriff's deputy was treated at a hospital for breathing troubles.
