So Iam considering joining two department's but they're in different states. My parents split that's why, one lives in Jersey other lives in Pennsylvania. I was curious to know if I can program my Pa Stations Frequency into my Jersey Pager?

I know I can do that if I belong to different departments in Jersey that are in the same county or state for that matter. Can I do that with PA frequency.

I just don't want to have to carry around two pagers if I dont have to.

Carlo,

You might want to actually first join a department, take FF1 (at the least) and work as a firefighter for a year or so before you decide to spread yourself too thin. All departments do things differently and different states have different requirements. Why would you want to be spreading yourself so thin and learning everything from the ground up, in two different departments with two different sets of standards and procedures. How about just becoming a firefighter somewhere first. Just my opinion.
Carlo, I agree w/ Jack.

Besides, you wouldn't have to carry two pagers, leave one at your dad's and one at your mom's. You wouldn't be responding to each dept at the same time anyways.

Plus, if the department issues you the pager do you think that they want you programming some other out of state dept's into it and using in someplace else? Pagers ain't cheap and what would happen if you lose or damage it at the other department? Who would be responsible for replacing it?
Thanks for your replies. I stay with my mom on the weekends, and stay with my dad on the weekdays. so it may or may not work out well see, I probably won't be able to transfer any certs either.
I am not in high school I graduated, 2 years ago, don't know where you came up with that. I am 19 years old going on 20 next month.
I have plenty of time on my hand's so its really not an issue really.
I know that, I wouldn't really only run with the other company if I am at my mom's which is every weekend. so I should be ok. well see.
Trust me stick with one fd. I am on 2 fd's in my county one I am a fire fighter/driver. The other I am asst chief. I recomend stick with one get your certs. Most fd's dont like guys who are only there for the weekends. Meetings most times durring the week same thing with training. Do one and have at it.
I would attend the meetings to both departments.
I completely understand where you guys are coming from. But I just think it would benefit me to be part of two stations, don't get me wrong it probably will drain me out. but if I enjoy then why the hell not. Now from my understanding as well, the national test is no longer given. So if anything I'd have to get certified in PA as well, unless I can bribe or prove the chief I am worthy of my NJ credentials lol.

I am young, family time isn't really a concern to me, I am not in a relationship don't plan to be in one for a while. so that's something that wouldn't really have an effect on me.
Yea FF929 I dont think he does. Carlo your heart is in the right place witch is half the battle. But when you are only making minumum training pluse being 2 states so twcie you have to take the same basic classes. I moved from NY to TN and had to re do everything and hated it. You have to do it to run. My advice, Pick one do it and see if you have time for the second.
I am only addressing 2 freq's in one pager....First you need to find out what freq each is, if one is VHF and the other UHF there are no pagers to do that, however if both in the same band and you have a 2 channel pager it is possible. Hope this answers your question.

Oh by the way if you don't own the pager you will need Chiefs permission, good luck with that.

Be safe!
