KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) - Two firefighters fell through the first floor of a Kentwood house early Monday morning. One sustained a sprained ankle, and the other was not hurt.
Firefighters said the fire started at 12:30 a.m. on Arlet Court. First responders said they saw heavy smoke when they got to the vacant house.
The firefighters were checking the house's first floor when they fell into the basement. They landed near the base of the stairs and were able to climb out.
A cause of the blaze hasn't been determined yet.
A lieutenant told 24 Hour News 8 the firefighters practice incidents like this throughout the year. Their last practice was about two weeks ago.
