ROMULUS, Mich. - A a large fire at the Concorde Apartment Complex in Romulus is under control after catching on fire around 3:15 a.m. on Friday.

Several residents say they heard a large boom then saw flames.

"I smelled smoke and pushed the screen out and got my family out," said resident Germarr Hister.

At least six units were on fire.

"I pretty much woke up and I smelled the smoke. I ran into the living room and couldn't see anything. I grabbed everything, my purse, my keys and my son and immediately got out.,: said Stacey Brown.

Five fire trucks and multiple police units responded.

The apartment complex is located at 7080 Niagara St. near Ecorse and Merriman.

Neighbors said police were called to the apartment that caught on fire for domestic problems several times in the past.

Police have not confirmed those reports.

There were at least 40 people that were evacuated. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced tenants.
