So... You get called to a residence of one of the firefighters wives who drank most of a can of soda that ended up containing a rodent. Yes, a rodent. The mouse or rat was sealed inside the soda can.
  • How would you handle this?
  • Do you consider this a medical emergency?
  • What would you do it it was your wife, family or co-workers wife?
Seriously, this happened!

Exhibit A:

One thing for sure, it sure makes me think twice about drinking anything out of a soda can.

On a side note, and not to be too gross, but the critter was literally "glued" to the bottom of the can, making it's presence rather... stealth. Damn rats!

might I suggest the food that goes with just about any meal... hee hee

or at least the chocolate covered critter meals - LOL
Like John stated if the person is not having an issue with A,B,C's then this is not an emergency transport. I would give them the standard (4) options that all conscious, alert and oriented callers get from me, 1. you can go to the ER via POV, 2. you can have a friend drive you by POV if you feel you are too upset to drive yourself, 3. you can call your personal physcian and seek medical advice from your local doctor, or 4. we will gladly give you a ride in the ambulance. Be advised the latter will afford you no lines, no waiting but will probably include about a thousand dollar bill for the EMS transport. This also gets a flow of traffic, (sitting in red lights) transport per the law. That really upsets people who call 911 so they do not have to wait.

I will suspect the call to EMS is knee jerk at first. But my past experience with other items in food, is this the start of the "lawsuit documentation trail" therefore I am not going to write much about the circumstances of the soda, not mentioning the name, or whatever may or may not have been inside.

In reality, who can really be assured it was in there from the canning process or not?
