QUINCY, Mass. - A Milton firefighter is fighting for his life after getting shot in the abdomen during what authorities say may have been a case of road rage.

Police say 30-year-old Joseph Fasano was shot just before midnight on Saturday in Quincy.

Fasano's mother tells the Boston Herald he was off-duty and returning home from her birthday party.

Police say the suspect was ahead of Fasano in traffic and began stopping and accelerating. Both vehicles pulled over, the drivers got out, and the shooting occurred.

The suspect, described as a white man, drove away. There have been no arrests and police are looking for a silver or gray sports car. Fasano's girlfriend was in the vehicle but was unhurt.

Fasano was taken to a hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
