ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA) - Montgomery County firefighters are on the scene of an early morning house explosion that severely injured a man and a woman in Rockville.

Assistant Chief Scott Graham, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, confirms rescue crews were called to the 11200 block of Ashley Drive for a report of a house explosion around 3:00 Wednesday morning. Graham says firefighters arriving on scene found a single family home destroyed by an apparent explosion and called for a second alarm.

According to Graham, a man and a woman were severely burned in the explosion and have been transported to a local hospital. Graham says their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Right now Graham says the exact cause of the explosion is unknown at this time. There are fallen trees and downed wires in the area.
