Should there be mandatory CEU requirements for firefighters, officers and so on? If so, how should they be applied? Should it be local, state or federal level requirement? Would employment depend on staying current and the same with maintainig rank? Let the games begin!

I would say it depended on the type of department...but I don't want the wrath upon me!
Actually I would say that all levels of the fire service should have some sort of CEU's. Chiefs down to reserves, inspectors etc. EVERYONE can benefit from CEU type training and gives your department a great advantage in that they will be able to "track" what training the personnel are receiving
Yes, I believe there should be CEU's for all FF's just like you do to keep up your medical. It will happen very soon I believe because of our LODD's.
Good point Tj
I have been saying that for a long time, just check out my blog on this issue...

I talk about having the Firefighter I & II levels be treated the same as an EMT card, with 3 year re-certification required and passing both written and practical tests instead of just receiving the certificate...Make them prove they learned something and are not just attending classes to get the paper to put on the wall...
Right on, I think they should include a fitness test into the CEU's.
