BOSTON - Prosecutors say a Boston man has been charged with robbing a city fire station while firefighters were out battling a three-alarm blaze.

Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley says 40-year-old Desi Halsell was caught red-handed on Monday night by firefighters returning from a two-hour fight with a blaze at a home in the city's Roxbury neighborhood.

Halsell allegedly had a black hockey bag over his shoulder and was carrying a laptop computer belonging to one of the firefighters.

Conley called the alleged theft "a new low."

Halsell was held on $2,000 bail after pleading not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday in Roxbury District Court to breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of burglary tools.

His lawyer refused comment.
