Maintenance Worker Dies in Vacant Pennsylvania Hotel Fire

PITTSBURGH — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a maintenance worker was found dead in the basement of a vacant hotel following an electrical fire.

Firefighters responded to a report of heavy smoke at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the closed Holiday Inn in the Pittsburgh suburb of Braddock Hills.

Braddock Hills fire chief Mark Lisovich said the victim was found dead in the mechanical room in the basement.

No one else was injured by what Lisovich called a "very intense" fire that appeared to be electrical in origin.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the victim as 36-year-old Gary Cottrell Jr. of Pittsburgh.
