PORTLAND, Maine - Authorities say a three-alarm fire in downtown Portland led to the evacuation of several buildings and closure of a busy road has been brought under control.

More than a dozen people live in the three-story building that caught fire early Sunday. They were evacuated, and several blocks of Congress Street were closed. There were no reports of injuries.

WCSH reports that firefighters were ordered out of the building, and hoses from trucks were being used to contain the fire. Neighboring buildings were also emptied as a precaution.

Shortly after 5 a.m., the Portland police dispatch office said the blaze had been brought under control, but did not provide any other details.

It wasn't clear what started the fire.
