LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three Louisville firefighters were hurt while battling an early morning blaze near Churchill Downs Sunday.
The firefighters suffered first- and second-degree burns. They were dispatched at 7:30 a.m. to a house fire on Bohannan Ave.
The Courier-Journal reports the three firefighters were inside the home when the fire broke through the ceiling from the attic. The three suffered burns to faces, backs and necks and were taken to University Hospital.
A woman and her son and two dogs were able to escape the fire.
Two of the firefighters were released Sunday, but a third had burns serious enough to keep him in the hospital for observations. Their names were not released.
The cause is still under investigation.
