Looking for tips, to prove to my dept I'm ready for a Lieutenants position...
I'm looking for tips to prove to my dept I'm ready for Lieutenant. I've been in 6 yrs this October, on the R.I.T team and a very active member and after August I'll be a EMT. Basically looking for things that will help prove my self so to say. Thanks guys.

I think this would be the same as looking for a promotion on any other job.
1. Go to your chief or captain,
2. tell them you are interested in moving up to a lieutenant slot
3. Tell them why you believe you are ready to be a Lieutenant.
4. and in my opinion this is most important. Ask them if they feel you're ready or if there are any things they feel you need to work on.
5. Take any advice they give you, follow it and continue doing the best damn job you can do.

You shouldnt have to prove yourself now. Your six years will speak for itself. Showing an interest now is good, but having command experiance, management experiance and the respect of your piers will be your judgement. The transition after isnt a great party either. Those with longer time on the department than you will take some time to win over. Let your history speak for itself. Those under you will expect you to know everything there is in firefighting and they will have to trust you to take them into the mouth of the dragon and bring them back out alive! Get into a FO1 class and a few officer developement classes. Good Luck!

Hopefully you've been taking all the classes you need, e.g. (FFII is a given) Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I, Strategy and Tactics, Company Operations, Ladder Operations. You should know your Department's SOP/SOG's, your 1st due area and there shouldn't be anything you would ask your crew that you yourself haven't done before (many times before.)
Also you will be (or should be) responsible for making sure everyone in your house is up on their training, and you will be responsible for dealing with personnel issues as they arise; are you equipped to handle those issues? And do you know your department's progressive discipline policy as well as sexual harassment policies?
Being first due you could (at least temporarily) be IC; are you prepared for that?
Also, riding in as an officer, you are responsible for your crew's safety and well being. If you don't know the best practices (NFPA) and make some wrong decisions you could find yourself held liable.
Or, you could just buy rounds and ask everyone to vote for you.
