Looking for a used leather helmet.

Hi brothers and sisters.

 

I am looking to purchase a new or used leather helmet. I have read around and did some research and I am pretty undecided on what I want. I have many composite helmets of my own. I am currently wearing a Cairns 660 because I am in recruit training with a new department and its their SOP that I finish their training program, and I half to were the department issue PPE until Ifinish probation.

 

I have wore a Morning Pride Ben II and Cairns 880 and I like them both. I guess what my question is pros - cons and  dose any one have one they wouldlike to sell?

If your looking for full leather you want to go with a New Yorker N5A or New Yorker N6A. Check with your department first because some departments do not allow the N5A because it is not NFPA compliant. If you want new you are looking at spending 500 to almost 700 dollars depending on what style, set up and where you buy it from. If your looking used ebay is your best bet but make sure there are no issues with the impact cap or major damage to the rest of the helmet. Repaint jobs and small leather issues are usually easy fixes but if there is any damage to the impact cap or major damage to the rest of the helmet do not buy it. Make sure the seller has 100% feedback also. Any other questions please feel free to ask. Hope this helps Stay safe

Dont forget ALL helmets have a 10 yr life to be in compliance with NFPA. I bought a New Yorker N5A. The MSA Sam Houston is only NFPA compliant if you have the goggles or the face shield. Theres also the Phenix and Paul Conway leathers.

NFPA updated a couple years ago now you do not have to have the goggles or face shield on your helmet. As long as you have eye protection in your turn out gear its ok.

Sorry didnt know ...thanks...sorry for the bad info. I was just going off what I saw on the firestore wwebsite on the MSA's
