A year or two ago I remember running across a study that involved several new sets of bunker gear that were sampled before (when still brand new) and after a structure fire (contaminated with products of combustion).  If I remember right the results of tests showed over 40 hazardous chemicals/compounds on the gear...including known carcinogens.
