I am a linux user and have been for 15 years,
I still repair win-hosed and crapple computers but do my best to steer people away from those control freak operating systems.
i find it so hard to get people to just try linux out
there are so many different versions out there that it seems daunting to new users to try.
i would recommend peppermint 8 revision 2 or cinnarch for ease of use, cyborg hawk for its forensic capabilities, or debian for its stability record.
ama linux, opensuse medical, or cdmedics pacs wed for medical distros.
the possibilities are endless.

and as well as being vulnerable to the damage that windows viruses can inflict on them.
linux does require a steeper learning curve than windows but in the long run you will learn more about your computer and how it operates from using linux.
if you are used to windows a good alternative os would be Robo linux, it is by far the most windows-like linux distro out there.
as with any distro they have a forum site that will help a lot!
