Hey guys, just bought my first leather helmet. It's an old helmet I got off of a friend on eBay. Yea, Yea, don't buy stuff of Ebay, I've heard it, but really I bought it cause well it's a leather helmet and also it was an FDNY helmet. Manufacture date is 1994. I don't think I will use it just because of it's history of being in the best department in the world (personal opinion, don't mean anything by it). It's still awesome and looks really good perched on top of my stereo system.

Anyway, I did a search and didn't really see anything that answered my question. Anyway it is more of a poll type question rather than a discussion. I know that I can use a leather if I desire too, I bought my composite helmet anyway so I didn't have to get that defender shield. (Anybody else hate those? I do) Question is does your department allow you to use a leather helmet? I know some departments allow them but I only know of one department that still uses them as front-line helmets. Anyway yes or no, if no state your department's reasoning as to why you can't use leathers. Just curious.

I use mine and I love it. It seems like the issue I find with them is whether your dept. lets you use bourkes or shield. Around here some depts don't allow the use of bourkes and some do.
I myself was hooked on the leather-heads, but I've worked for two departments & an airport, have had 5 helmets total, my last department, switched to the composite, but I kept my old one, for me it was just tradition. I'll tell you what, there's a forum here, called the Leatherheads, in case you need any more info...
