YORK, Pa. - Police in central Pennsylvania say three children and their mother were saved from the third floor of a burning building when the woman dropped the children to a waiting officer before escaping herself.

Seventeen people were displaced by the fire that broke out Thursday night in York.

Authorities say Northern York County Regional Police Officer Cody Becker got on a second-floor roof then caught the three children - including an infant - and passed them to a bystander before the woman lowered herself into his arms.

The children appeared to be unhurt but the woman had a cut on her arm. The family was taken to a hospital to be checked out. No other injuries were reported.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
