LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Authorities say a woman died helping five young children escape from a house fire in Kentucky.
Louisville (LOO'-ih-vihl) Fire Capt. Sal Melendez tells WHAS-AM that the woman, whose name has not been released, died at University Hospital Thursday morning. The woman had to throw some of the children out of a window to rescuers because there was no other way to save them.
Melendez says the woman collapsed after all the children were out.
Firefighters say the children, who are all younger than 10, suffered minor smoke inhalation but are expected to be OK.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
