KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The body of a Kansas City firefighter has been recovered from a Jackson County lake where the personal watercraft he was operating was hit by a pontoon boat.

Divers found the body of 48-year-old Gerald Lavallee in Longview Lake around 5 p.m. Monday, about 23 hours after the accident.

Lavallee was off-duty Sunday when he went out on the lake and was hit by a boat being driven by another Kansas City firefighter. The Missouri Water Patrol says the pontoon boat was trying to avoid a second personal watercraft that cut in front of it.

Lavallee's shredded life jacket floated to the surface after the collision.

KMBC-TV reports Lavallee was a 16-year veteran and drove a truck for the Kansas City Fire Department.

Rest In Peace Brother.
That's terrible news. Our hearts go out to the Lavallee family and to the KCFD.
