This junior is alower rank then you, AND ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!!!!

I am an Explorer Captain and if one of my guys EVER did anything, like try to 'show off' to a firefighter or fight for a seat or have a firefighter switch/get off an apparatus, they would be suspended, for 2 month and then brought up for review by myself, post advisor and the Captain that was on duty at the time this inncedent happened.

Explorers/Juniorslike to think that we can boss you rookies around and tell you what to do, because we have more time on then you! DONT LET US!! We aren't gettting paid and your the ones with all the training. This Explorer/Junior that you are talking about sounds like a brat!

As an Explorer/Junior, i know that i am the bottom of the food chain! i am below the rookie, even if it is the rookies 2nd day. You should not let the Junior treat you like, it shows that he has no respect for authority.You need to talk to your brother about this and sit down with the junior and explain to him that he has no rite taking away what u have TRAINED for. It is disrespectful!
the Junior should be happy that he is even ON the fire apparatus, who cares if it is the front seat...heck i will never be allowed to sit up front cause thats were the capt and driver sit. He needs to understand that being a Junior has a lots of responsility and respect that come with it, and that you shoulod not abuse it. By him acting like this, yourself and other firefighters will look down apon him.

Next time he trys to throw you off the apparatus grab him and say "Junior, i am the one getting paid, get off!"and make sure he gets off.

This Junior needs to be taught a lesson.

Thanks so much, but I am a volunteer, just like him. But he doesn't listen to me when I tell him that I outrank him. And usually, in the front seats is the driver and officer, but if we are going out for something non-emergency, like fundraising, or traveling to and from a training session, and it's just me, the driver, and the junior, he'll argue about getting front. It's just frustrating. But thanks again for your input.

Becky....You have the training...You are a member in good standing.....You need to set the record straight.....take it to one of your officers to deal with it...that's why they have the position....Then, after they deal with it.....spank the little brats ass......I know I would.....Stay safe...always Keep the Faith.......Paul

This is what the Chain-of-Command is for. Bring this up to your immediate supervisor and/or the explorer's supervisor. Those are the people who are going to solve this problem.

To me a its a double edged sword.....at my FD when you were a Junior you had no rank, no vote etc so even if you had 2 years as a junior a probie with 6 months was over you but.......Once that Junior reached regular member status (18 years old) they became the senior man since the years of service counted while they were a Junior.....

What it really boils down to is who is the better person to be riding in the certain positions.....is this junior a better firefighter than you??? Does this Junior know more than you???? If you can not put your ego aside to allow the better person to perform a task then it is you who are wrong....no matter if your a firefighter or the CHief. All that really matters are end results if this Junior is up to par on training and has been there longer than you he probably knows what he is doing better than you.

On another note if you truly are the senior member you should'nt have to be told to wash the trucks you should be the one leading the way for the "Junior" members and motivating them.

I agree with Rob its the same way at our dept I started out as a jr and had guys over me who were in highschool with me but were 18 but they joined after me, however they were sr firefighters so they had the rank. After I turned 18 i was the SR most member. Now im a Lieutenant over guys who were lts,captsains, and chiefs when i started. Point is that where you are located seniority wise can change very quickly. Just rember where you are and dont act like an ass like this JR. is.

in my station JR's DON'T get on truck and prob's only get on if we don't have full crew (we are VFD) are prob's geaqr up and wait by the truck for a officer to tell them to get on JR's according to our by-laws are not allowed on truck. as for this one being bossy tell a officer (use your chain of command) aboutthe situation and let then handle it

you have training you are legally able to go into the burning building u out rank him...u may be in the proby spot but u have the training...& 1 day he will be the proby & will he want a JR. doing to him what hes doing to u...i think not...
