Junior Firefighter Explorer Posts
I am the Junior Firefighter Supervisor and im trying to do trainings with my explorers but i am running out of ideas. Can anyone give me ideas. I do a training day and a meeting day once a month. And does anyone know of any grants for junior firefighter grants for gear and equipment?

The biggest problem is money...lets face it...its always the issue...Gear is expensive and we scramble to make sure our Firefighters have what they need...let alone the Jrs. and Explorers...It costs approximately $2000 for each Firefighter and being a Vollie unit we scrape for every penny......Training....now there is an open book....I am a big fan of using the local playground and run a rope or handline over, around under and through everything and have the people in full gear (blacked out mask follow the line...its fun, and the training is awesome....Good luck

i see alot of people have agreements and disagreements bout juniors having up to date gear but if i got a kid on a scene and gets hurt like falls and breaks a wrist while carrying a vent fan then the learning for life program we are under looks at everything they were wearing and makes sure its up to date and within code or the insurance we got does not cover.

Gear is uded for interior ops, if the person is that clumsy that he/she "gets hurtcarrying a vent fan" then all the gear in the world won't make a bit of difference.....that's like saying they didn't have gear and got hurt in the truck on the way to a fire....would it have mattered....? Only gear really needed for exterior ops (at a minimum is gloves, helmet with eye protection and maybe some wildland gear...not $2000 worth of brandnew bunker gear....you have to have priorities...and if it comes down to members with training getting gear or Jrs & Explorers...then my vote goes to the members with training....
