Investigative Report Released on Dumpster Fire that Killed Wisconsin Firefighter

KIEL, Wis. - Wisconsin fire officials say they've classified the cause of a fire in a December explosion that killed a firefighter in Calumet County as undetermined.

State investigators say there is no evidence indicating the Dec. 29 fire was intentional.

Calumet County Sheriff deputies and about 20 firefighters from St. Anna were battling a trash container fire at Bremer Manufacturing Company when it exploded, killing 33-year-old volunteer firefighter Steven Koeser of Kiel and injuring eight others.

Investigators say the cause of the explosion was a result of fire suppression efforts and the introduction of water and fire suppressant foam.

Local authorities had previously said the fire appeared accidental.
