Hi All,

 

I was curious if there is a standard answer to this or if it varies.  I am a Canadian who is looking to expand my options to include departments outside of Canada.  Will U.S. states consider some one north of the border?  I'm thinking "no" becuase of the fact I wouldn't be legally entitled to work without be naturalized, however, if there are any suggestions of what I might do, I'd be interested in hearing opinions on the matter.

The golden rule here applies, he who has the gold, makes the rules. It can not hurt to apply. The chief can always change the rules to allow you on his department if you can show him that you are the best option. I have never heard issues with people needing to be naturalized to work here. At my day job we have several Canadians. If you plan to move and live here that can be another ballgame hockey match.
Thank you both. I realize it would be dificult depending on all the factors, but I was hoping, sort of optimistically, that this was something that was done more often than I thought - just to provide myself more options. My father is a citizen (born in Montreal and now a US citizen) but that does me no good as an adult. I will persue it and keep it open as a potential option.
