INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis authorities say two people are dead and four others injured in a fire at an east side apartment building.

Fire Department spokeswoman Capt. Rita Burris said in a news release that investigators say arson is to blame for Wednesday night's fire at the Nottingham Village Apartments.

Burris said a mother and her infant child were killed. She said the injured included three people who jumped from third-floor balconies and one firefighter.

Firefighters also rescued four others from balconies.

Burris says investigators believe the fire started in a first-floor hallway and quickly spread to the two upper floors.

Burris says the fire caused about $1 million in damages.
