FORT BRANCH, Ind. - Smoke continued to billow from a closed meat packing plant in southern Indiana for a third day after the fire broke out.

Firefighters haven't gone inside the former Emge plant in the town of Fort Branch because of major cracks seen in the building's concrete and shifts in the walls. Fire Department spokesman Pete Lewis says the fire was first reported about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities on Monday set up a shelter at Gibson Southern High School for those with breathing difficulties from the smoke.

Emge closed the plant in 1999 and no longer owns the site in the town about 20 miles north of Evansville.
