CARMEL, Ind. - The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department tells 24-Hour News 8 a Carmel man is dead after he set a fire in his own home Wednesday and then walked outside and shot himself in the head.


A neighbor called firefighters just before 10 a.m. to 10000 block of Santa Anita Court in Carmel after hearing the gunshot and then seeing the smoke, said sheriff's department spokesperson Vicki Dunbar.

Firefighters found the man's body outside the home upon arriving at the scene.

Police are not releasing the name of the man at this point. Dunbar said the man was in his mid-to-late 30s and lived alone at the house.

Dunbar added that police had been called to the house on multiple occasions for domestic dispute cases.
