One can not serve 2 masters at one time.
Yeah im in between both of them. Bryant is about 30 min from its closest Medic station so they could use some help on calls
To each their own. In my personal experience, it became difficult to maintain both training schedules and also picking which calls I go to. I prefer the method I use now which is 100% dedication to 1 department.
make sure your dept will allow it
i have a guy now that is tring to do 2 depts im going to have to hurt his feelings by making him take our tag off his truck and not use our equipment on there calls
2 departments can be very difficult. Especially after being on one for a while then going to another. Your home dept. may feel like you are abandoning them. That's pretty much what happened to me.
firechief911 why are you going to do that ? I am on two departments and use one set of gear for both and there is no problem with that. Does your FD and the other FD not get along ?
Im on 2 departments that are about 15 miles apart. But i work during the day where one dept. is and respond during the day for them and i live where the other FD is and respond for them at night. They meet on different nights and i am traning officer on both dept. so i can put same time in both. I would not respond that far away. only join the other if u can give the same amout of time and be dedicated to both and dont try to respond to far.
Davis meets on thursday and bryant meets one sunday a month so i dont think ill have any prob with that. my dpt dosnt mind if i run with another dept too.
If your giving to 2 your not giving enough to either one.
Belonging to two departments can be hard. If the departments work well together then it makes it easier. It also is hard if one department does not have as good of equipment or gear as the other. We have some firefighters that belong to two departments and it works out okay for the most part. The hardest time is when they respond on auto aid with the other department and when it comes to assignments that person needs to assigned with the department they came with. I think if you are willing to put in the time at both departments not just on calls but durring events, trainings, and other times then I am sure it will work out. Volunteers are hard to come by and dedicated volunteers are even harder to come by.
Don't know what the laws are in your state but in NY General Municipal Law ARTICLE 10 sub section 209-1 States you CAN NOT be a FULL member of 2 volunteer fire departments -But if the 2 departments agree you can offer your help to the 2nd company for the purpose of training and Emergency calls
we get along good with the other dept . the problem is we have good equipment but little money to replace it , if it gets damaged on there call are they going to replace it? if it dont get damaged how much extra wear and tear will it get makin it need to be replaced sooner, at 1500 + bucks per set .
as for the tag with our dept name there is a liablity he lives in my district 14 miles from the other i dont need him rushing to get that far with our name plaster to his bumper . they dont need him over there to start with . if he takes off going to a fire 10 miles the other side of there station he driving 24 miles with adrillin pumpin its an accident waitin to happen i dont want to be the bad guy just have no choice this time.
