IAFC Releases 2nd Edition, Terrorism Response Guide For Fire Chiefs

International Association of Fire Chiefs

"Terrorism Response: A Checklist and Guide for Fire Chiefs" is a toolkit on terrorism preparedness for departments of all types and sizes. It is designed to enable fire chiefs to assess, prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from a terrorist attack in a methodical, clear and comprehensive manner. The result for your department should be improved terrorism preparedness and better preparedness for all risks and all hazards.

The Checklist and Guide strengthens a fire department’s readiness in three key areas:

1. Helps departments assess their readiness to meet the needs of their communities and provide concrete steps to help fill any gaps.
2. Provides guidance on strengthening fire departments’ relationships with their fire service peers, other safety disciplines, and government leaders, thereby fostering a regional approach to preparedness.
3. Includes fire departments as partners in the national intelligence enterprise, the scope and importance of which is growing as the nation seeks to thwart future attacks.

The Checklist and Guide is similar to many of the federal, state and accreditation requirements with which fire departments must comply. However, this document drills down into fire department operations, providing detailed steps that each department can adapt to its own needs and abilities.

The Checklist and Guide is available to all members of the fire service. The IAFC Terrorism and Homeland Security Committee encourages departments interested in working through the checklist to take part in the mentoring process.

Terrorism Response:

To not take advantage of any and all training materials, especially those focusing on WMD response is outright foolish and shows just how serious you are toward providing the best level of service and commitment to your community. I strongly recommend folks here on the FFN to spend just a little bit of time preparing for what could be a reality. Just watch TV...

Failure to prepare is preparing for failure.... Be prepared!

Nairobi IED Outcome... It could never happen here... yea right...

We Shall NOT Forget... right?

CBz Editorial: For those volunteer fire agencies and full time departments that have any kind of budgetary concerns, don't you think having an understanding of what folks are doing for terrorism preparedness and response is important to be the recipient of equipment grants and training monies? Having an understanding of terminology, chain of command and where the money can be found starts with things like the IAFC's committee's work.

I'm assuming that most folks know that fire departments have purchased replacement PPE, fire hose, and SCBA's with Homeland Defense grant monies. And to think, as of this writing (02-07-2011) not one reply or comment was made on this post. Survival of the fittest... Don't be the last one to finally get it, after it's too late... You can either run with the big dogs or stay on the porch napping. Sure seems like a lot of folks here on the FFN are spending too much time on the porch napping and playing games instead of focusing on what is important... being prepared. Just sayin'
