International Association of Fire ChiefsFairfax, Va., October 28, 2010 - Today the IAFC announced an unprecedented partnership with two of the fire and EMS community’s leading trade media outlets, Elsevier Public Safety (publisher of
FireRescue Magazine and
JEMS) and Penton Media (publisher of
FIRE CHIEF Magazine and
American City & County Magazine).
The arrangement marks an unprecedented expansion of news and information services offered to IAFC members. As part of the agreement, all IAFC members will automatically receive a complimentary subscription to both
FIRE CHIEF and
FireRescue magazines, beginning with the January 2011 issues. In addition, IAFC EMS Section members will receive a complimentary subscription to Elsevier’s
JEMS magazine and all IAFC members will have the opportunity to access the latest issues of
Wildfire magazine online. Each media partner also brings to the table an extensive list of online resources through
FirefighterNation.com and
FireChief.com.
“We are very excited to be broadening our relationship with two organizations that IAFC members routinely turn to for the cutting-edge information they need to perform their best,” said Chief Jack Parow, IAFC president and chairman of the board. “Now more than ever, our members need to think outside the box to find solutions to the challenges facing their communities. Therefore, the IAFC is thinking outside the box of its traditionally exclusive media partnership model to ensure that our members get the full spectrum of information they need. We are very fortunate to have the support of two exceptional organizations who share our commitment to quality information and services.”
In previous years, the IAFC has held exclusive media partnerships with each publisher at different times, but also has maintained strong ties and individual programming partnerships with each. In looking at the variety of issues and challenges facing today’s fire and emergency service leaders, the IAFC determined that its members were best served with a nonexclusive partnership model that draws on the strengths of both media outlets to provide comprehensive coverage of tactics, leadership, health and safety, professional development and more.
“Through our collaboration with the IAFC, we’ve been able to make a positive impact on the fire service—particularly in the areas of firefighter safety, health and survival and leadership development," said Jeff Berend, Elsevier Public Safety’s VP/Publisher. “Our continued partnership will provide the tactical information emerging leaders need through innovative online and print platforms.”
"
FIRE CHIEF is pleased to partner with the IAFC once again,” said Janet Wilmoth,
FIRE CHIEF's editorial director. “The missions of
FIRE CHIEF and the IAFC are a natural fit, and we look forward to developing leaders for the fire and emergency services and giving those leaders the resources they need."
The agreement with each organization also allows for the IAFC to contribute ideas to national discussion and debate via articles, blogs and other forums in these and other public safety and local government-related publications.
