I'm running into a problem.  I went to emt basic school in texas and didnt get my state cert because i was told i only need my nremt.  Now I need my texas in order to switch to ohio, but I have to get fingerprinted in texas to do that.  Can I just take the ohio emt test and get certified even though my school was in texas?

yes, as long as you have the National Registry, then you should be good to go. however, with that said and always factoring in the politics, your best bet is to make contact with the EMSA folks in both Texas and Ohio, explain your situation and get an answer, IN WRITING. things should work out just fine for you but cover your ass always, right?

best of luck,
CBz
Contact your local authority and ask them....but I doubt it....in anyones eyes...you never got certified because you didn't complete the course (no exam no completion) If you did the NREMT then you are golden because the National is honored in all States...Ohio should honor that....did they tell you no...?
Mike the way he posted this I am not sure he ever took/passed the NREMT....if thats the case I believe he is screwed.....Hope I misread it.....Best of luck
I took and passed my NREMT. I was told I did not need to go ahead and get my Texas EMT cert because my national registry would be all I needed to get my Ohio certification.
I have the application needed, but a requirement is the current states certification. I dont have the Texas certification, just the NREMT certification.
If you have the NREMT Cert that's all that you need...that's the National Certification for EMT....its good in all States.....you don't need to show them Texas cert if you have National.....just give them A COPY (never give up the original...Keep copies of EVERYTHING you do.....it will save your butt someday
HMMM that sounds wierd. I just went thru this class in Kentucky, we had to pass the hands-on portion of the test, which was required before I got cleared to take the National Registry. So when I passed both, I was certified NREMT and state of Kentucky certified. At least that's how it works here. Sounds like you need to contact Ohio's state EMS office and Texas EMS office and find out for sure. And yes I had to be fingerprinted and have a background check done before end of class to be able to test. I've not heard of anyone not getting their state cert. only NREMT cert.
Thats what I thought too! I thought NREMT was good everywhere. Here is the link to the form I have to fill out. http://www.publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/EMS%205911%20EMT%20-%20Basic...

Would you mind looking at this and telling me what you think? I read it as the texas state card is required. I really apprciate your help in this.. thanks a lot
I had the background check done, but I was told fingerprinting was only required to get my Texas cert (which I didnt think I needed), so I didnt get fingerprinted. So now I have my NREMT and in order to get my Texas cert I just need to get fingerprinted, but I dont have the company they went through anywhere near me..
But I couldn't get tested without my background check completed. NREMT wouldn't let me. It was one of the requirements for me to get to test for the NREMT. I thought that was a nationwide thing. So how did you get to take the NREMT without the background check I guess is what I'm asking.
There is a phone number in the letter head...I would call and speak to someone, Keep that person's name and contact ## for future reference...explain what your situation is and get information directly from them...they will have the answers for you....It sound slike you may have to take advanced airways to get your certification to practice in Ohio....
I think that if you contact Ohio and get the form that your local (Ohio) Leo can do the prints for you...
