Hi name is matt i live in brockton mass. i am 20 years old i just got my ged last year but i am looking for a job to save up money so i can pay for the three night school classes i need to get my real diploma. After that probably sometime next year i am going to enlist in the Navy. Dont ask why the Navy either i get that a lot. I picked the Navy cause i like ships and i like the ocean. and my cousin who has been in the army since summer of 2000 said if i joined the marines or the army he would come home and kick my ass so for my mother's sake i chose the Navy granted there is still high risk in the Navy. There is a part of me that wants to join the army and kick down some doors. But anyways that is my plan When i get out of The Navy i want to be a firefighter. Here is the problem i am not the brightest at math and science but i did take asvab and got a 46 which cause i have ged was 4 off from getting in the Navy. I would like to score high enough to be Damage control my second choice is Navy mp either either way i get veteran status which puts me on the top of the list. Do you have to be a wiz at math and science to be a firefighter. I can do basic math and some hard stuff and i know a little bit about science and chemicals. I listen to my scanner frequently and have gone for a ride along with an engine co. in brockton and i met and talked with some boston firefighters and got my pic taken in FDNY tower ladder 12 and i have many pics of fires and firetrucks on my camera and computer and phone. I am determined to be a firefighter no matter what i do not see myself sitting in an office pushing papers. Who knows maybe the Navy will help teach me some things that will be useful towards my firefighting career. I was told every one gets trained in firefighting a little bit in the Navy. any info is helpful and greatly appreciated i just hope you dont have to be some brain wiz to be a firefighter. PS. God Bless all the firefighters emt's police officers and all soldiers serving in the military in all the branches.
