We just signed onto this at our station, it has been on test since last summer and seems to be worth while. Is there any other Vollie Stations out there using this system to assist the paid guys in knowing who is responding to a call to give them help. The paid guys can look at their CAD and see who is on there way to them. Just wondering out there in FF land.

We have talked about it, but that's as far as we've made it. There is another dept. on the north end of our county that uses it and I as far as I know they like it. Maybe I should try to push this along with our dept.
In our Dept. the chiefs call dispatch and let them know were responding. We are vol dept. though
Yes we use it to We are a combo department our career staff likes it they know if a crew is on the way.
We also have a requirement that all volunteers have to sign up for 24 hours a week on the schedule. We also use the I am responding system for that to. We send messages out on it to the whole department. Like when we are going to short on the schedule. or a meeting coming up. we use it alot. We have it on a 32 inch screen at station one and a 22 in screen at station 2 in the bays at both of our stations so we can see who is on the way while we are getting our turnouts on. One of our members is one of the orignal people that invented the system. If you click on the picture on the log in page and watch the video I am the one looking at my phone in the video. It's a great tool to use for your schedule duty time it keeps track of it for you.

this does not go through dispatch, it comes from the people responding by a phone call to a computer program where it can be sent to a CAD system in the truck to show the guys that they have help on the way. Its seem to be a great help from what I have seen so far. Its nice to be at the station and watch it on the desk top and see who is showing up. Thanks for all your responses.
Sounds like a helpful system. What could the downside be?. I can't think of any.
We are a vol. dept. so we just radio to dispatch. Can produce a lot of radio traffic at times. That's a huge downfall to this system.
There is no radio traffic with this unless you feel the need that you need to be on it. The guys will just know who is coming and if the need for another piece of equipement they can call for it in the mean time while everyone is enroute. You don't need a cell phone either. It will set up off a home phone also. But if you call in you either SHOW up on scene or report to the station covering the station until they get home. be safe
We use the CAD system but dispatch assigns the units and we can see who is responding when dispatch clicks that they are currently responding...

I am interested in hearing about the phone system software though.
Just go to (I Am Responding.com) and it is costing us around $900.00 a year and we are splitting that with the city. It charges like 2 or 3 cents per phone call it recieves through the system per emergency call. That is just billed to the Station using it, NOT charged to caller. It can be programmed to the CAD in in the truck which dispatch is not involved since they are probably busy anyway. There is a phone number on the web site to help you with any info.
