Thats one area I am not familiar with, although for display purposes it might not look to bad as is, to show what kind of beating it and we take in during a fire.

I repaint helmets on the side. Granted I haven't had to fix a lid as bad as that but what you can do is get a tight mesh material. Then get a good epoxy, I use PC-7 (you can get it at Home Depot). Your going to have to ball park shape it to look like a brim with the mesh going around the wire and past to where you have good leather. Let it cure. I'd rough sand it to the desired shape. A second coat of epoxy to get the final shape. Now it doesn't have to be perfect. Get some vinyl spackle, to fill in any minor imperfections. You can use that to get a nice smooth finish. Prime and 2 coats of ONE SHOT Black and she'll look pretty.

You can repair 'em with short hair Tigerhair(body filler)BUT: Do you reaally want to? If the brim is that soft,what's the next section to fail? That helmet has done it's job,maybe time to retire it to the mantel and invest in a new one to protect your melon. Yeah,I'm worth it.

I can offer the following, take a large piece of skin glue it to the back of your helmet on top and bottom, then Paste rivets to the edge and ask for a wire edge, then you can paint him. Will not look beautiful, but aggressive)))
