I was just wondering how many departments have Fire Police, and are they paid or vol. departments ?? Do they hold any type of peace officer status, or are they civilians ???

just curious, does florida recognize the ecistance of fire police...if they dont they should
cap, i'm with you 100% but in some states (like florida) use of the word "police" is regulated
Sherrill Kenwood Fire Department Sherrill Ny Central New York

We have fire police they are department members they are volunteers as we (firefighters) also are volunteer
they are considered peace officers here in NY you take a 3 day training for fire police
I was just thinking about this today actually..... I dont believe any departments in Canada have positions like this, I can't speak for every province or territory but I think this is more of a US idea. I used to work as a Community Peace Officer out in Alberta...the FD in that town would utilize me for scene control, but no different then they would the local police dept. as well...I was not specific to the FD....Here in Ontario we just call up the local Police for assistance as we need it...in fact in all reality the FD has no LEGAL authority to even shut down a roadway...technically we need the police for that.....we do it...but technically hehehehe....

seems like a cool position though....but I think giving them Peace Officer Appointments would definetly help thier cause....
