How Many Can Remember Their First Call
The first call I answered in NY was a false alarm. My first call here in SC, I will never forget.
It was a structure fire where we lost a mother, and three children. It was a very difficult time
for the entire fire department. This is not the way anyone should have to answer their first alarm, but it happens. I can only prey that I don't have to come accross another alarm such as that.

I joined the day I turned age 16 and for my birthday present I got to respond to a brush & grass fire. Greatest feeling. Hooked for life. I just turned 50 years old this year and I'm still hooked !

Hey Micky,
My first call was an MFA (box call) around the corner from my parent's house. Nice ride on the back step of the OLD 442 (open cab 900 Series American LaFrance - remember?) across the village. My first REAL fire was Malloy Brothers if memory serves me correctly. That was a Signal 10. Ben busy around here 2 jobs in the past 5 days. Fireworks related fire at a woodworking shop on Hoffman & Broadway - just north of the railroad tracks. Just got back from a second floor job on 39th street.

My first call was for a carbon monoxide alarm going off. Fumes were coming from a muffler shop next door. My heart was racing through the whole thing though.

My First call with my current Dept was a car fire, my first Dept I worked for I think it was an alarm but not sure since we only responded to the station an most times got cancelled before we got there.

you got hooked after responding to a call on a fire truck at just eleven years of age.

My first call was a brush fire right around the block from my house! A well pump had shorted out and caught grass on fire and escalated into about 2 acres of trees and brush. It was a blast, and I stilll enjoy doing it!

Yo Doc, how the hell are you, good to hear from yall, and thanks for responding
to one of my discussions. Yes I do remember the old American LaFrance, we shared
the same fire house before they built 103 Maple Ave. I also remember the fire at Malloy
Brothers, I must say, those were the days. So Lindenhurt FD has been keeping you busy.
I hope all is going well on the job for you. I will be giving you a call this weekend, I have

say it's in the blood, I would guess there is some truth to that statement.
I also started out going to the fire house with my dad at the young age of
three years old, and soon as I was of age, I also joined. Thanks for sharing
