BUFFALO, N.Y. - A life is lost as a Niagara Falls home goes up in flames overnight.

The woman was unconscious when rescuers pulled her from her burning home and rushed her to the hospital, but she didn't survive, the fire was too intense.

Firefighters rushed to a burning home on the 2100 block of 22nd Street just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Crews arrived to a thick cloud of smoke and fast-moving flames.

That's when they were told a woman was trapped on the second floor, firefighters quickly ran inside to search for her.

"We started to attack the fire and conducted a primary search. We found an elderly female in the front bedroom. We brought her down. She was unconscious at the time. The next crew started to work to resuscitate her and she was taken to the hospital. At this point, we don't have an update," said Niagara Falls Fire Department Battalion Chief Patrick Martin.

As rescuers rushed the woman to the hospital, firefighters continued to knock down the blaze.

Right now it's unclear what sparked the intense flames.

"There's nothing at this time that appears suspicious, but they're just starting their investigation," said Martin.

Authorities aren't releasing the woman's name Friday morning. News 4 spoke with the fire marshal who spent hours at the scene Friday morning, he says that they are just beginning their investigation into the cause.
