HORSEHEADS, N.Y. - Authorities in upstate New York say there's been an explosion at a house and two people are injured.
The cause of the blast wasn't immediately known, but utility crews are on the scene in Horseheads and neighbors within a block-and-half are being told it isn't safe to stay in their homes.
Mike Smith, director of fire and emergency services in Chemung County, tells the Elmira Star-Gazette the injuries don't appear to be life threatening.
County Undersheriff William Schrom says the house was engulfed in flames when police arrived. The explosion was reported just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The injured are expected to be transferred to a hospital in Rochester. Horseheads is about 80 miles south of Rochester near the Pennsylvania line.
