COLLEGEDALE, HAMILTON COUNTY, TN - Water pours into businesses Tuesday afternoon and creates significant damage to two businesses and condominiums in the Collegedale area.
A 9-1-1 call was made reporting heavy water pouring from the ceilings of businesses, Joe Farrar Engineering Co. and Piece of Cake bakery located at 9298 Apison Pike.
Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene confirming water coming from the brand new, unoccupied condominiums and pouring all over floors and coming into the ceilings of two businesses below causing significant damage.
According to Deputy Chief Dennis Thomason, Tri-Community VFD, reported the water damage was caused by the water sprinkler being triggered by the extreme hot temperatures outside.
This condominium's central heat/air unit stopped working today, which allowed the attic area to get extremely hot. Fire personnel used a thermal imagining camera to check the temperature in the attic, which read 140 degrees. "These sprinklers are set to go off when they reach 150 degrees. I am sure the heat in the attic of this condo reached that today" said Chief Thomason. Damages are estimated to be about $50,000.
No injuries were reported. Unknown as to who owns the condominiums but they were currently for sale.
