I am currently involved with teaching "First Respondr" level corses to high school kids. Does anyone have any resources...pics, poerpoint etc for "low level" haz mat information and EMS level info as well?
You may reach for your penalty flag all you would like.
I have plenty of resources available to me where I work, however every now and then I like to see what other people, other departments from around the country are doing. Sometimes I can incorporate it, sometimes I can't.
And is there something wrong with teaching first responder level classes to high school kids? We also have a course on firefighting in our high schools, we have EMT-B classes in high schools as well. Is there some sort of problem with that?
Jake....relax man.....In some ares you cannot get certified for EMT until age 18...same for firefighter certs....we don't even accept members for probie status till age 18......As far as some basic Haz-mat information you might check the Firefighter I book...it includes what we refer to as "Haz-mat Awareness" instruction and should fit your needs quite well......Stay safe.....Keep the Faith.....Paul
Come on guys, your comments are not needed. Jake is just wanting to know about what other departments are doing. Is there something wrong with that?
Jake,
We have a Jr. and Jr. Cadet program, and they go through most of the training we do, they just have to wait on certificates until they are of age, and possibly take a refresher. My son went through Wildland Level 1, the classroom portion, not too long ago.
Get them interested while they are young, they might be our replacements someday.
