Recent increased seismic activity, heavy rains and things just happening can cause a landslide. This needs to be on your mind when responding to an incident adjacent to areas that are known to have a slide potential. Watch this video and ask yourself where you plan on positioning apparatus now that you have an increased awareness about rock slide potential and landslides.

That was incredible! Fortunate for us in our area, we don't have to deal with this type of activity. Your right on.. in being aware of theses types of incidents. Awareness is the key along with planning ahead. Great stuff CB..
Yep, we get the rock slides here in PA.
We all have the potential, but to actually see one occurring gives you more awareness to the incredible destructive forces of a landslide.
I've seen the aftermath of a few of these monsters and it's suprising that they don't kill more people. It's something I wish there could be more training on this but it's kind of hard to simulate those things. Any ideas on how we could train for something like this?
perhaps dodge ball might be a good start Mike... as far as being able to do not much more than get out of the way... it's a very reactionary response. the key here was having a state geologist on scene, giving folks the heads up that a failure was imminent. I believe the video documents her stating that she heard something. Without having this individual there, the folks working to clear the roadway would have been history. if this is the kind of thing that you also have to worry about the first step is awareness. just show this video to the troops. situational awareness is the key here and with a lot of rain, coupled with saturated ground soil, you get these types of incidents. Hello global warming?

Thank god we dont get that stuff here.
